menyatakan kemampuan melakukan sesuatu di masa sekarang (present) dan sebagai pengganti be able to. Contoh : I can close the window, I can speak Chinese
meminta izin. Contoh : Can I go out until past midnight?
permohonan. Contoh : Can you pass me the salt and pepper?
penawaran. Contoh : Can  I help you? , I can lend you some money if you want.
